GP-line Terms &
Conditions of Membership: May 2005
Before you join online or by 'phone please make sure that you read and
understand these Terms & Conditions.
A copy will be provided with your Membership documents upon acceptance of your
Application.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Terms
1) The GP-line service, encompassing its doctors and their associates,
our service call representatives and the Web site GP-line.co.uk is referred
to hereafter as GP-line or The Service.
2) Persons registered as members of GP-line calling The Service are referred
to hereafter as The Caller.
3) GP-line is the property of
GP-line Limited, Head Office:
29 Harley Street, London W1G 9QR.
4) The service is available to UK and Northern Ireland residents and
to expatriates of the U.K and Northern Ireland.
5) GP-line agrees to provide:
a) A 24-hour fast track and convenient access to private UK doctors who
will provide telephone consultations.
b) Unlimited access to medical advice where the doctor concerned considers
any such advice appropriate.
c) Advice and reassurance regarding The Caller's concerns via qualified
and practising GP's each registered with the General Medical Council and each
covered by independent indemnity organisations.
d) Wherever possible, a diagnosis over the telephone and a suggested
appropriate course of action.
e) Telephone surgery consultations as long or as short as appropriate
to The Caller's needs.
f) Advice that is specific to The Caller - taking into account The Caller's
individual symptoms and current personal medical history.
g) A service in which all its representatives are bound by their professional
codes of practice.
h) Advice on the benefits or the pros and cons of the use of over-the-counter
medicines for any prevailing symptoms The Caller may have.
6) GP-line cannot provide:
a) The prescription of any drugs. The Caller must refer to their own
registered doctor for any prescription service.
b) Assistance, support or advice for a medical emergency. If The Caller
has an emergency medical problem then they must access their local emergency
medical services.
Conditions
7) The Caller agrees to the following conditions:
a) The Caller acknowledges that they should remain registered in the
UK with an NHS general practitioner.
b) The Caller understands that no promises are made or given or intended
by the advice given to them by GP-line.
c) The Caller understands that no information, advice or diagnosis made
by GP-line to them shall be deemed the only or best possible advice at that
time with respect to the matter in question.
d) The Caller understands that medical patient confidentiality agreements
and Data Protection Act protocols and the Codes of Practice regarding doctor
patient relationships bind any medical information provided to GP-line.
e) The Caller is required to provide their unique GP-line Membership
Number when using The Service and is responsible for leaving a clear contact
number in the event that a doctor is required to return a call.
f) The Service to The Caller is reliant upon the provision and operation
of adequate telephonic communication systems for The Caller to receive advice.
GP-line cannot be held responsible for the failure of such communication systems.
g) GP-line cannot be held responsible for any breakdown of service from
its Web site that is the result of an occurrence outside the domain of the site
and therefore beyond our control.
h) The Service to The Caller will be terminated without reimbursement
if;
7h1) The Caller behaves in such a way that is deemed rude or aggressive
to Doctors, their staff or GP-line representatives.
7h2) The fee for this Agreement with GP-line fails to be paid or is cancelled
or is not renewed upon expiry.
7h3) Any action is instigated by The Caller that is considered by GP-line
to be an abuse of the system.
7h4) The Caller allows others to use GP-line in The Caller's name.
7h5) The Caller uses GP-line in a way that is prohibited by any law or
regulation that is extant either in the UK or the country of origin of the call.
7h6) The Caller uses GP-line in a manner that invades the privacy of
third parties.
7h7) The Caller uses GP-line to transmit unlawful, fraudulent, offensive,
obscene, pornographic, defamatory, abusive, threatening, or otherwise objectionable
material.
7h8) The Caller uses GP-line to encourage or conduct actions which would
give rise to civil or criminal liability.
7h9) The Caller uses GP-line to violate, or assist in violating, the
security of GP-line whether intentionally, negligently or otherwise.
8) Family or Single Parent Membership
a) In the event that a call is made by a parent or particularly a Guardian
or Nanny of a minor who is enrolled in GP-line then, where appropriate, advice
can be provided to such third parties within the Terms of this Agreement notwithstanding
clause 7h4.
9) Agreement Renewal
a) The term of this agreement shall be for a period of 1 year from the
time and date of payment clearance.
b) This Agreement will be renewed automatically for successive 1-year
periods and GP-line will forward an automatic renewal reminder by e-mail or
post prior to debiting The Caller's account.
c) Either party may notify the other party of its intention not to renew
by giving one month's written notice.
10) Complaints Procedure
a) Complaints must be made in writing in the first instance,
addressed to The Medical Director,
either by e-mail to medicaldirector@gp-line.co.uk
or by post to our Head Office (address at clause 3), headed by the following:
1. Complaint: Membership No: (The Caller's No);
2. Time/date of occurrence of complaint;
3. The Caller's contact number (if different from that registered with
GP-line);
4. Name of member of GP-line involved (where possible).
(Items 1-3 are mandatory for us to begin investigation
into a claim)
b) The matter will be dealt with promptly and GP-line will contact the
complainant within 4 working days of receipt.
c) All complaints are promptly investigated by the Medical Director of
GP-line in a professional manner and actions will be taken accordingly.
11) Submission of a GP-line Application and Acceptance of GP-line membership
indicates that The Applicant has read and agrees to the Terms and Conditions
as set out above for the period of this Agreement.
12) I am the person who has completed the Application Agreement and I
agree to the GP-line Terms & Conditions and understand that upon Acceptance
I will become The Caller as referred to above and will receive a unique GP-line
call Membership Number and Membership Card
(Note: A copy of this Agreement will be provided with your Membership Card.
If you wish to use the service immediately upon joining you will be verbally
provided with both the GP-line Call Number and your unique Membership Number
by the Operator).
