STONECROFT COTTAGE

Stonecroft was originally intended for the use of the farm workers. They worked long, hard hours for little money an little home comfort, they even had to use the outside toilet! (Don't worry we put a bathroom in when we renovated it!)

KITCHEN
The cottage has a fitted kitchen cum dining room with modern conveniences including , an electric hob and oven , microwave , full-sized fridge/freezer , washing machine and tumble drier.
The kitchen has access into the walled garden where you can sit on the patio surrounded by our beautiful , relaxing countryside .



SITTING ROOM
The separate sitting room , with comfortable suite, colour television and video, houses the original range where all the farm workers cooking was done and where the only source of hot water was provided by boiling kettles for the washing and of course for the ritual Sunday bath !
Nowadays Stonecroft has oil central heating with thermostatically heated radiators throughout , however you can still use the open fire to burn coal or logs , which is lovely on a cold winters day or a cool autumn evening .


BATHROOM
An open staircase leads upstairs to the tiled bathroom which includes a bath with telephone shower attachment and new for 2005 an electric shower.



BEDROOMS
Stonecroft has two bedrooms, the main bedroom has traditional oak furniture and double bedThis bedroom overlooks the cobbled courtyard where you can park your car .
The second bedroom has twin beds and pine furniture . This room overlooks the fields where our sheep and cattle graze .

SWALLOWS NEST COTTAGE

Swallows Nest is so called because it was the perfect summer retreat for the Swallows which visit us each year .

As the cottage is all on one level (apart from two steps down into the twin bathroom) we have renovated it to not only be used for able-bodied people but also for those who are in a wheelchair or have difficulty in walking .
It has an Accessible Grade Level 3

Whilst the facilities provided for the disabled are excellent they have also been used sympathetically and are in keeping with the age and character of the building.
In 2002 it was the winner of the County Durham Environmental Award which rated it top in the County for accessible accommodation.



BEDROOMS
This cottage has two bedrooms both en-suite. The main bedroom has a double bed with pine furniture . The second bedroom has twin beds with traditional oak furniture .





KITCHEN
The kitchen cum dining room has all the facilities required for a relaxing break for everyone and includes a full-sized fridge/freezer, a microwave , oven and hob and washing machine/tumble drier . The ceiling of the kitchen has been left open to reveal the original beams.



SITTING ROOM
In the separate sitting room , there is a colour television and video, comfortable suite and a real fire which will burn either coal or logs .
this room overlooks the fields where our sheep and cattle graze, the ceiling of this room also has exposed beams



BATHROOMS
The single bedded room has an en-suite bathroom with bath, toilet and handbasin.
The double bedded room has added facilities for the comfort of our guests with walking difficulties, please see below for more details.








DISABLED FACILITIES
The cottage has been awarded a Category 3 Grading by the English Tourism Council for Accessibility, in addition to the 4 Stars given for comfort and equipment.

In 2002 it was the winner of the County Durham Environmental Award which rated it top in the County for accessible accommodation.

KITCHEN
Free access to all worktops. Sink and hob have clear underspaces the hob is also lowered.
There is access to the controls on all the equipment including the hob, oven, washing machine and microwave.
The oven has been raised to allow for food to be transferred safely to the worktop. Both the fridge and freezer are accessible to the disabled guest.
The dining table has a higher than average surface, with a clear underspace to allow access for a wheelchair.

BEDROOM
The disabled bedroom has a double bed, with raised surface and clear space on both sides to allow for transfer and the wardrobe has a lowered rail for ease of use.

BATHROOM
The disabled bathroom has a drive in shower and anti-slip drying area. There is a fixed and pull-down handrail in the shower and a fold-away seat as well as an assisted shower chair/commode with removable sides.
The toilet seat has been raised and there is a fixed and pull-down handrail to allow for transfer. The wash basin has lever taps and again a clear underspace to allow for wheelchair access. There is a vertical handrail to the left hand side.

PARKING AND GARDEN
The parking space and garden are all on one level with level stone flags and a gas barbeque.

Tourist attractions with wheelchair access are plentiful and at least two public houses which serve wonderful bar meals are nearby.
