Speciality of the Month - ROYAL WINTON

Royal Winton had its beginnings in the young Grimwade Brothers firm, founded in 1885 in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England. Leonard started the business and his brothers Edward & Sidney joined him later, (or as some descendants claim vice-versa!)
Royal Winton -the trade name of Grimwades Ltd- was based at the Winton Pottery in Stoke on Trent. The company manufactured a diverse range of tableware and decorative designs in moulded earthenware including lamp-bases, candlesticks, jug-and-basin sets, dressing table sets, jardinieres with stands, novelties, and cottage ware. In the 1930s Royal Winton became particularly renowned for its chintzware, pretty aaffordable tableware decorated with all-over floral patterns and produced in large quantities- which are increasingly highly sought after worldwide. Royal Winton breakfast sets and stacking tea sets are especially popular among collectors.
