Sheep Movements; SPS; Bovine TB

SHEEP MOVEMENTS.
From 1st January 2011 movements where there is a change of keeper need to have all the individual animal numbers of sheep identified after 31st December 2009 recorded on the movement document and in the holding register. In practice this will mean that individual numbers for hoggs returning from wintering will need to be recorded. Individual animals that are electronically identified going to an approved “Central Point Recording Centre”, such as an auction mart, do not need individually recording on the movement document (AML1) as the tags are read at the mart and the vendor supplied with a printout. Batch recording can continue for animals intended for slaughter within 12 months of birth. It is no longer necessary to report movements to adjacent CPHs or to land near by using an AML1 form, but the movement should be recorded in the movement section of the Holding Register and the CPHs listed in the “additional identifiers” box in section 1 of the register. For daily moves (“open gate”) only a single entry needs to be made detailing the frequency.

SINGLE PAYMENT SCHEME: ENTITLEMENTS.
RLE1 forms to transfer entitlements must be lodged with the RPA by 3rd April 2011 to enable them to be used by the new owner for the SPS 2011. Forms can be ordered pre-populated with entitlement information from the RPA customer service centre 0845 603 7777. It is essential that the Single Business Identifier (SBI) of the person to whom the entitlements are being transferred is included on this form. Completed SPS forms must be with the RPA by midnight May 16th or penalties for late submission will be applied. The combined rate for both EU and domestic modulation is set at 19%

BOVINE TB.
Durham is one of the few counties in England still on four yearly cattle testing. It may seem that TB is a South West/Welsh problem but it is only a “movement away”. All farmers, not just in the “hot spots”, need to understand the issues to reduce the risk to their own cattle. Peter Gray from the Animal Health Office for the North East will give a presentation followed by a hot supper at UTASS at 7.30pm Monday14th March 2011. Please phone UTASS to book a place.

CLAIMING DATES.
CLA CAP Reform Meeting Thursday 17 February 2.30pm Hexham Mart or 7pm Hired Lad, Penrith.
UTASS will be closed all day Friday 18th February for staff training.
