For me, clothing is an important starting point to make art, usually cast-off denims. I ‘recycle’ the material, or work directly onto the garment, using dyes, bleach, machine stitching and quilting techniques.
My method explores random and experimental processes, but ultimately I orchestrate the complexity of colours and textures. I use applied stencilled text to add clichés and metaphors with multilevel messages drawn from both universal and personal experiences.
My professional work with museum collections both informs and challenges my own artwork in a major way. I would describe myself as an “artist-curator”.
